Accounting got in the way of me hitting on a couple of topics that have been out there during the past week or so. Here we go with some of the topics I wanted to hit on.
Congratulations to Carlos Zambrano on throwing his no-hitter. Maybe all he needed was some rest to come out and be dominant. His velocity was fine, he was locating his pitches well, and was just plain filthy. A healthy Carlos Zambrano is needed for the playoffs, especially considering the Rich Harden’s velocity was way down in his last outing. It did feel very weird to see the Astros playing the Cubs in Milwaukee, which brings me to my next point…

Of all of the places you could have relocated the Houston vs. Chicago series to, why Milwaukee? Let me think this through, you’re sending the Astros to play their home games 90 miles away from the city of Chicago, a place that has the nickname of “Wrigley North” by the way, ad you’re sending them to a city of a team you’re competing with for the wild card, the Brewers, so their fans can come to the stadium and boo you. Great job MLB!!! If I were the Astros, I’d be pissed to. Look, I understand why they did it. Milwaukee has a retractable roof stadium and they thought that was the only way they could get the games in, but if you want it to be “neutral” send them to Tampa and play. Yeah, it’s out of the way, but it’s at least not a Cub home game. The other solution I thought of at the time would be St. Louis. The Cubs were already there and it wouldn’t be a huge travel for Houston either. The only disadvantage is lack of a roof. In the end, the move and lack of playing for a couple of days has certainly cooled off the Astros.
I must admit, I didn’t really watch much of the Monday Night Football game between Philadelphia and Dallas. Apparently I missed the “greatest Monday Night Football game of all-time.” That’s what ESPN was proclaiming Monday night’s game as. All right, I get it was a good game ESPN, but just because a good game was broadcasted on your network, doesn’t make it the greatest game of all-time. I’m really getting annoyed by the network telling us that anything that airs on their family of networks is great and anything that doesn’t…well, it just didn’t happen.
Jumping back to baseball, I must admit the fan in me came out when Victor Martinez hit a three-run home run to beat the Twins last night. It’s exciting whenever the team you follow, the White Sox in my case, make a run at the playoffs. I love baseball, but as anyone can attest to, when your ballclub is not in the race, you tend to follow it a bit less than you normally would.
Give me your thoughts!
